"The most powerful atomic icebreaker launched into the water at St. Petersburg" |
St. Petersburg, September 22. At the Baltic plant in St. Petersburg, the most powerful icebreaker in the world, LK-60Ya Сибирь (Siberia), was launched, the correspondent of the Federal News Agency reports. This is the first of three nuclear icebreakers in the project 22220 series.
The Chairman of the Accounts Office, Tatiana Golikova, was chosen to be the "godmother" of the icebreaker, and broke the traditional bottle of champagne on the side of the ship. Before that, she thanked all those who put their work into the project.
The icebreaker was laid in May 2015. Its completion will continue afloat. The length of the vessel is 173.3 m, width - 34 m, and the displacement is 33.5 thousand tons. The nuclear reactor power plant RITM-200, which has a unique energy-efficient integrated layout, was produced for the Siberia. This provides improved technical characteristics for the new icebreakers in speed and icebreaking ability.
Also in project 22220, in addition to Siberia, the Arktika and next the Ural are included in the series. All of them are able to pierce ice with a thickness of 3 meters.
