A prominent Syrian general who was killed days ago in eastern Syria has been buried in his home of al-Sweida in Syria's south today.

Major General Issam Zahredinne served for three years in the city of Deir Ezzor when it was completely besieged by ISIS.

The city had the siege lifted some weeks back, allowing him to have a 10-day vacation to see his family for the first time in years.

Since returning from vacation, he continued to battle against ISIS but was unfortunately killed when his motorized convoy hit a landmine on Saqr island days ago.

His funeral was attended by thousands of civilians and soldiers in the Druze-minority stronghold.
