The American military has attacked radar stations in Yemen in response to attacks on a US destroyer in the Red Sea, the USS Mason, which recently became the target of two missile strikes in Yemen.

First, on Monday, two missiles were fired at the ship which fell into the sea before reaching the ship. Then the Pentagon blamed the shelling on Houthi rebels, who have since rejected Washington’s claims.

On Wednesday, the USS Mason was once again under the gun as two missiles were fired at it. This time, another ship, the Ponce, also came under threat while accompanying the destroyer during combat duty.

This new incident occurred in the northern part of the Bab El-Mandeb Strait. Immediately afterwards, the Pentagon stated that it is ready to respond “appropriately.” Washington responded within a few hours of the shelling of the Mason. The American military’s targets were three radar stations located on the territory under the control of the Houthis.

“According to initial estimates, the radars were destroyed,” the spokesperson of the US Department of Defense, Peter Cook, announced.

The Pentagon’s spokesperson remarked that US President Barack Obama personally gave the green light for the attack. He was advised to strike Yemen by Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and the head of the Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, Joseph Dunford.
