The Italian delegation meets with President of the DNR Alexander Zakharchenko

Italian business leaders are looking to the future and believe that after the military conflict in eastern Ukraine, the self-proclaimed republics of Lugansk (LNR) and Donetsk (DNR) will be good long-term partners.

A group of businessmen from the Veneto Region of Italy visited Donetsk and Lugansk November 23-26. Palmarino Zoccatelli, vice-president of the Veneto-Russia Cultural Association and chairman of the Committee for the Independence of Veneto, recounted his visit in an interview with Sputnik.

"This is already the third time I've been to the DNR, while LNR was a first-time visit for me. Our priority for the visit in the Donbass was to establish direct contacts between our entrepreneurs and local entrepreneurs and authorities, to "test the waters," as well as to find projects for economic cooperation," said Mr. Zoccatelli.

In particular, Mr Zoccatelli noted the progress made by Donetsk in the region's recovery, stressing that the republic was moving towards social and political stability. Gianmatteo Ferrari, vice-president of the Lombardy-Russia Cultural Association, also took part in this business visit.

"Now the main objective is to help these people (from Donetsk and Lugansk, ed.) from an economic, political, and cultural point of view. We, the Cultural Association of Lombardy-Russia, have already organized several events and conferences and today we will try to do more. We will prepare meetings and cultural events," said Ferrari.

The plans of the Italians aim at long term cooperation. They are interested in collaborating in various fields such as renewable energies, building infrastructure, industrial equipment, the agricultural sector, as well as in the production of furniture and equipment for hotels, houses, and offices.

Italian business leaders are also ready to export Veneto food products, e.g coffee, olive oil, pasta, and wine to the DNR and LNR.
