ISIS is attempting a large-scale offensive on the T-4 airbase near Palmyra where Russian attack helicopters are based. The terrorist grouping has published footage of the battle for this strategically important airfield of the Syrian air force.

The footage shows just how incredibly close the terrorists made it to the military facility. In the first video, one can see an ISIS tank and cart in front of hangars with airplanes located at a distance of little more than a kilometer from the main facility.

In the second video, ISIS fighters filmed a Russian Mi-35 attack helicopter in action in the counter-terrorism operation. The footage shows the helicopter flying very low to the ground.

The gangs have also taken the abandoned missile defense base north of the T-4 airfield. The footage released by ISIS’ media wing clearly shows the old, probably long since non-functioning S-125 anti-aircraft missile systems.

In addition, terrorists knocked out a tank of the airfield’s defenders with an anti-tank rocket.

On Tuesday, the terrorists conducted an artillery pounding operation and began yet another assault on the security perimeter of the Tiyas (T-4) airbase west of Palmyra. It has been reported that the attack was less fierce with a smaller force than in the last two days’ attempts.

Recently arrived reinforcements and Russian planes and helicopters clashed with militants and repelled the attack, counter-striking ISIS positions at the abandoned missile defense base. Syrian troops also hit one of the terrorists’ tanks.

The supreme command of the Syrian Arab Army is sending new reinforcements to Palmyra from Aleppo, Damascus, and other Syrian provinces. Reports have surfaced that Tiger Forces, Hezbollah units, and other groups have already arrived at the T-4 Tiyas base. It has been suggested that the Syrian army is going to send up to 2,500 troops to the eastern Homs province to subsequently launch a counter-offensive to regain control over the important oil fields in the region.

According to some reports, 12 government troops and militiamen of the National Defense Force have been killed in the battle for the military airfield over the past two days
