A Ukrainian soldier has crossed the contact line in Donbass on an infantry fighting vehicle and surrendered to the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic. This was reported on Thursday by RIA Novosti citing a source in the LPR’s law enforcement bodies.

“On December 1st, a serviceman of the Ukrainian army crossed the contact line with the LPR on an IFV, after which he voluntarily surrendered to units of the People’s Militia,” the source reported.

According to the source, the incident took place in the Kirovsk district. Whether this was part of an attempt to penetrate the line or whether the Ukrainian soldier simply deserted has not been specified.

“Now the UAF Servicemen has been sent to the republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the source added.

This incident comes on the heels of what the LPR People’s Militia’s spokesperson, Andrey Marochko, noted earlier: the poor morale of Ukrainian soldiers leading to frequent cases of desertion.
