Chancellor of Austria Christian Kern has called for the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions, that have hurt Europe’s economy, to be reconsidered. Kern believes that the EU should consider other ways of influencing Russia which will be effective and strike less at Europe’s economy.

The Austrian Chancellor also stated that he supports a partial lifting of the anti-Russian sanctions if progress is observed in the Minsk Agreements.

“However, we need to agree that the lifting of sanctions should go hand in hand with observance of the Minsk Agreements,” RIA Novosti quotes Kern as saying.

Kern also emphasized that the sanctions against Russia have hurt Austria’s economy to the tune of .3% of its GDP.
