The authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic have “caught on to the trail” of the alleged killers of Somali battalion commander Mikhail Tolstykh, a.k.a. Givi, the deputy commander of the DPR, Edaurd Basurin, has announced.

Givi was killed on February 8th in the outskirts of Donetsk. The DPR called the assassination “a continuation of the terrorist war launched by the Kiev government against the people of Donbass.” The investigation is currently reviewing several versions of the attack, including the use of a Shmel flamethrower and/or explosive device.

“We have already caught on to the trail of the criminals and hereby declare that each of them will be deservedly punished,” Basurin told journalists.

Basurin also stated that the media allegations that a Somali battalion volunteer by the name of Igor Myltsev was involved in Tolstykh’s murder is another propagandistic ploy by Ukrainian intelligence.

“We have already proven that the page of Myltsev, allegedly a servicemen in the Somali battalion, was long ago hacked by Ukrainian security services…But the most important in all of this is that the SBU has played this information ploy in order to divert suspicion as to its innocence in this terrorist attack,” Basurin explained.

Somali battalion representatives have also stated that their lists never included a fighter named Igor Myltsev, and the law enforcement organs of the republic have denied any involvement of the militias in Givi’s assassination.
