Russian press secretary Dmitry Peskov has just confirmed that Russian aero-space units had struck Turkish forces. This was reported by Sputnik news, and Hurriyet. Previously, officers of the Turkish Army accused the SAAF (air force) of carrying out the attack. Peskov's confirmation today is meant to dispel alternate theories and proceed from a route of diplomacy on the basis of this unfortunate act.
Russian strategists have no doubt contemplated the various outcomes that could arise from the initial accusation, with blame being laid at the feet of the Syrians.
This development is of a determining quality in terms of Russian-Turkish bilateral relations, and will prove to be a sore point against any hopes of warming times.
