At an emergency session yesterday evening, deputies of the People’s Council of the Donetsk People’s Republic adopted a law on the de facto nationalization of Ukrainian industrial enterprises on the territory of the republic.
This has been announced by DPR parliament deputy and chairman of the Free Donbass movement, Evgeny Orlov: “At an emergency session of the People’s Council, draft law 388 was adopted. At the legislative level the decision has been taken to transfer Akhmetov’s enterprises to our control. This decision was dictated by Ukraine’s blockade. In order to not stop the operation of these enterprises, the republic took this step.”
According to Orlov, issues of raw material deliveries and markets are already being resolved. “The supply of raw materials has already been thought through. Market niches have been found. Jobs will be preserved. This is an important and serious step, including for the sovereignty of both republics! I can only congratulate our citizens!,” the Donetsk politician emphasized.
On February 27th, the leaders of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had issued an ultimatum to Kiev, threatening to nationalize Ukrainian industries and cease coal deliveries if the blockade of Donbass by radical neo-Nazi groups is not lifted.
With this law, Donetsk has gone through with its ultimatum by striking at the profits of the richest oligarch in Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov.
Numerous experts have pointed out that the cessation of coal deliveries could plunge Ukraine into an energy disaster, forcing the government to start selective blackouts.
