A movie, direct by Orlando von Einsiedel has won Oscar award for best documentary short feature.

The award itself would mean nothing controversial if it wasn’t for the background that is surrounding the winning documentary. According to the experts and analysts, the movie is not even a documentary as none of the scenes were actually filmed by Netflix productions crew that is said to be the producer of the movie.

This, however, is not the only controversy surrounding the documentary which is praising White Helmets also known as the “Syrian Civil Defence”. According to both, the experts familiar with the Syrian conflict and the eyewitnesses, members of the White Helmets are in fact a fanatical sectarian group, operating under the guise of humanitarianism. Their members are said to be involved in all sorts of crimes – from thieveries, lootings, providing equipment for the terrorists groups that are fighting against the Syrian Army, even systematically murdering the Syrian civilians such as injecting the children with deadly vaccines. Some of the group members even went as far as to praise the videos in which ISIS and Al Nusra Front terrorists are beheading the Syrian soldiers.

On January 23rd 2017, a report was published about the White Helmets actually being “Al Qaeda’s paramedics”.
How White Helmets are actually linked to the terrorist group can also be seen from the fact that recently White Helmets leader Raed Saleh and cinematographer Khaled Khateeb were both barred from entering US by Trump administration, despite the fact that the group was allegedly receiving resources from the USAID.

The group is said to be receiving receiving lots of financial aid from abroad, particularly from Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, US and the EU that were previously known for arming and financing the so-called “Syrian rebels”, many of whom have since joined the ranks of ISIS and Al Qaeda.
Last year Boris Johnson, British Foreign Secretary, admitted that the group has received an “aid package” of £32 million.

Today’s Oscar award is not the only controversy surrounding the White Helmets and their international acclaim. In 2016 the group was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
