Syrian special forces, supported by Russian air forces, are continuing their successful offensive on ISIS’ holdout in the city of Al-Bab in the east of the Aleppo province. The terrorists’ stronghold is almost completely surrounded, trapping the militants in a cauldron.
The Syrian army, led in its charge by Syrian Tiger special forces, have inflicted another blow on the terrorist gangs’ defenses and advanced on Al-Bab, cutting off ISIS’ last supply route and insulating the city from Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor - from where reinforcements and arms were transferred to the eastern part of Aleppo province.
Russian air forces have afforded massive support to the advancing SAA divisions by striking the communications and strongholds of the Islamists in the area.
Simultaneously, Turkish troops and pro-Turkish militants have ousted terrorists from the village of Bzaakh following fierce firefights. After several hours, they retreated in the face of a counter-attack which featured an ISIS suicide bomber exploding a car packed with explosives inside the village, thus killing and wounding a number of Operation Euphrates Shield fighters.
A number of ISIS militants have been routed from towns south of their eastern Aleppo stronghold. On Tuesday morning, Tiger Forces and other units liberated the village of Mazula and the nearby Tel-Hawara hill, attacking Islamists from the newly-taken town of Ayushi.
In just a few hours following the liberation of Hawara and Mazula, Tiger Forces took control of the village of Birat al-Bab north of the city of Aran, thus closing in to four kilometers from the southern outskirts of ISIS’ Al-Bab stronghold.
Over the course of the successful offensive, SAA troops have established fire control over the highway leading to Tadef, the main supply line of the terrorists holding out in Al-Bab.
In addition, reports suggest that firefights are ongoing in the town of Abu Jabbar east of Ayushi.
It remains unclear whether Syria’s armed forces will continue forward to liberate Al-Bab or shift their focus to Der Khafer, which would allow Turkish forces and their allies from the “opposition” subject to Ankara’s leadership as part of the Euphrates Shield Operation to sweep ISIS out of the area.
