The Russian Ministry of Defense has voiced harsh criticism of Western reports on the situation in Syria. The ministry's official spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, has called out Western media for a "mountain of garbage of their own fakes and open lies" on the humanitarian situation in Syria in general and Aleppo in particular.

"Reports on the situation in Syria built on 'testimonies' from local 'activists' gleaned off of social networks harm the reputation of international organizations and influential media rather than help solve humanitarian problems in Syria," Konashenkov asserted.

In these reports, Russia's defense ministry spokesman said, "one can clearly see the desire of propagandists to quickly legitimize the mountain of garbage of their own fakes and open lies which colossal budgets have been spent on."

Continuing, Konashenkov argued that "horror stories" about Aleppo do not replace bread, medicine, or roofs over Syrians' heads.

In the general's opinion, Aleppo "would be a blooming garden city" if Western broadcasters stopped wasting funds on propaganda, and instead donated their advertising profits to humanitarian aid in Syria. "The large amount of money that has been spent on preparing numerous tales would be better to send to providing real help to those whom these reports are supposedly dedicated," Konashenkov proposed.

According to the latest International Committee of the Red Cross report, 13 million people in Syria are in need of humanitarian aid, 4 million of whom live in besieged and hard-to-reach areas.
