Militants of the Islamic State terrorist group attacked the Syrian army’s positions on the Homs-Furqlus-Palmyra highway at the same time that the US launched missile strikes at Syria’s Shayrat airbase east of Homs, a source has told RIA Novosti.
“Is it a coincidence that ISIS militants attacked one of the defense positions of the Homs-Palmyra highway at the same time as the US strike on Shayrat base?” the source asked.

The governor of the Homs province, Talal Barazi, informed RIA Novosti earlier that the Shayrat airbase is one of the main support forces for the army in its fight against ISIS in eastern Homs, including on the Palmyra front.

Donald Trump called the bombing a response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by Syrian government troops in Idlib. According to the latest reports, five people were killed in the attack and seven were wounded.
