Russia confirmed that it is ready to export the necessary quantities of a new batch of air defense systems to Syria once the deal is finalized.
Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's defense committee, Viktor Ozerov, assured the export of requested quantities will have no negative impact on production or availability of the particular air defense systems.
According to Ozerov, there shouldn't be anything unusual in the export process since Syria is an ally of Russia and fully devoted to fight against terrorism, a thing also supported by Russia on both, political and military levels.
He then pointed out that the new export deal does not violate the norms of international law, stressing that air defense systems count as defensive weapons and not offensive ones.
Russia is currently collaborating with Syria in dealing with the terrorism problem and frequently carries out air raids against the terrorist groups, operating on the Syrian soil.
