On 29 April, Russia is set to witness another wave of unsanctioned protests "against corruption" and the current government as a whole. In the week of March 26th, Western media-darling Mr. Navalny held a series of opposition protests, largely aimed at tearing down Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's Prime Minister.

"He's not your friend - mansions, yachts, vineyards. Dmitry Medvedev's Secret Empire."

In the upcoming series, the campaign targets the country's President, Vladmir Putin. It is being organised by "Open Russia" NGO, which is headed by none other than Mikhail Khodorkovsky - an oligarch who in the 1990s robbed the Russian people via 'venture capitalist' loopholes, served time for his crimes, and run away to the West to complain about it.

Mr Khodorkovsky has a long and sour history with Mr. Putin. Once the richest man in Russia, Khodorkovsky accumulated considerable wealth through obtaining control of a series of Siberian oil fields unified under the name Yukos, one of the major companies to emerge from the privatisation of state assets during the 1990s.

In May 2005, he was found guilty of embezzlement and money laundering, and sentenced to nine years in prison. President Vladimir Putin pardoned Khodorkovsky, releasing him from jail in 2013. He immediately left Russia for Switzerland and has since been active in anti-Putin, "pro-human rights" initiatives.

The wave of new protests is to be titled "Instead of Putin" and is planned for most major Russian cities.
