Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid Mouallem held news conference with his Russian and Iranian counterparts, Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif , during which he affirmed that the tri-state meeting is sending a rather strong message in the wake of the US aggression against Syria.

During press conference, Mouallem thanked Russia and Iran for their support to the Syrian government, declaring that three countries will continue to work on securing the Syrian territory from terrorist threat.

He also stressed that Syria has repeatedly announced that it does not possess chemical weapons and the Khan Sheikhoun incident is completely fabricated, repeating that Syrian Air Force does not use chemical weapons, not even against the terrorists and that Syria condemns the use of chemical weapons by terrorists, adding that Syrian government already requested to form an international committee that would launch an independent investigation into Khan Sheikhoun incident.

"The real question is why the United States fear the formation of such committee that would launch an independent probe”, Mouallem was heard saying, adding that the “United States do not want to accept the results of an independent investigation”, stressing that Syria, Iran and Russia have determined the necessary measures, needed to repel any form of aggression launched on Syrian territory.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the American aggression against Syria violates international law. He also said that the United States and their allies do not respect Syria's sovereignty and integrity and that their actions represent a major regional and international security risk. Lavrov welcomed the readiness of the Syrian government to work with Organization for the Prohibition Chemical Weapons and called for a throughout balanced and independent investigation.

Russian Foreign Minister also said that Moscow is particularly interested to work jointly with the Syrian government in order to eradicate the terrorism problem in Syria and calls for the unification of the international community's efforts to form a wider coalition to fight terrorism, stressing that Russia, Iran and Syria have already agreed to form such joint coalition.

Lavrov also said that any breach of international law is unacceptable and unilateral actions, similar to the US missile strike, could undermine the peace process, stressing that Moscow is determined to return to the UN Security Council resolutions and fully respects the integrity of Syrian territory. He pointed out that there are currently lots of rumours going around about the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria, noting that the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria was already completed as a part of  an agreement between the United States and Russia and that the Organization for the Prohibition Chemical Weapons officially confirmed the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that Moscow, Damascus and Tehran will cooperate with various parties in order to prevent the use of chemical weapons and that there must be an independent investigation to find out who used the chemical weapons in Syria.

He also pointed out that actions, similar to that taken by the United States will only encourage ISIS, Al Nusra Front and other terrorist groups to do more harm.

He then noted that there are double standards as regards the use of chemical weapons in Syria as the United States are blindly accusing Syria of being behind the chemical assault, despite lacking evidence, pointing out that their deliberate lack of will to carefully investigate the events clearly shows that they are having their own motives for their actions and statements.

Since Thursday, Walid Mouallem, Syria’s Foreign and Expatriates Minister, is visiting Moscow. His visit came right after that of Rex Tillerson, the US Secretary of State.
