Units of the Syrian Army established full control over the key strategic towns of Madaya and Zabadani, located in Damascus countryside, after last jihadists and their families (approx. 1000 people) left the city. The jihadists and their families were evacuated by buses that will take them to Idleb and Jarablus.
Currently, the Syrian government and the jihadist groups are realizing the negotiation deal on evacuation of civilians from the besieged villages of Kefraya and Al Foua, located in Idleb countryside, in an exchange for the safe evacuation of jihadists and their families from the towns of Madaya and Zabadani, located in Damascus countryside. The deal, which was brokered by Qatar, Iran and Russia, was slightly disrupted on Saturday after the terrorists bombed the buses carrying civilians from Kefraya and Al Foua. More than 100 people were killed, most of them children. On Wednesday, however, approx. 3000 civilians from the embattled villages in Idleb, were finally evacuated.
The Syrian army sources confirmed that the military gained full control over an area in the size of 50 square kilometers and includes Madaya, Zabadani, Bludan and Serghaya. Engineering units of the Syrian Army are currently looking for IEDs and landmines to be dismantled as some are believed to be left over by terrorists.
Alaa Ibrahim, the Governor of Damascus, in the meantime confirmed that humanitarian aid for civilians in the newly liberated areas is underway. The total damage, caused by terrorists, is yet to be estimated.
