Officially registered unemployed figures have fallen by 1.2% in Russia over the past week.

According to the Ministry for Labour, the total amount of registered unemployed is 891,905 persons. This time last year, the figure stood at 1, 056, 020. 

Official statistics has shown a fall in unemployment across 80 Russian regions, with the highest falls in Sevastopol, Kalmykia, Jewish Autonomous Region, Bryansk, Tambov, Kirovsky Region, Astrakhan and Stavropol.


At the same time, in regions that are considered traditionally "bad" for employment, their unemployed figures have increased. These regions are Altai, Tyva, Yakutia and Dagestan. 

Russia's unemployment rate stands at 5.5% of the working population, as of the end of 2016. The government aims to reach 5% by the end of 2017.
