The exiled Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has called on the United Nations to issue a resolution, obliging the Saudi-led Arab coalition to immediately halt all military operations in Yemen.

“We call on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and adopt a resolution in accordance with the international law and human rights declarations in order to stop the further acts of aggression, being conducted in complete opposition to the international law, the international humanitarian law, UN conventions and human rights declarations,” Saleh was heard saying while addressing the leaders of the Yemeni General People's Congress Party.

He then criticized the attempts of the UN Secretary-General's envoy to Yemen to hand over the strategically important port city Al Hudaydah to the forces, loyal to the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

Currently, the city of Al Hudaydah is under control of the Houthi rebels, who are, alongside their allies from Saleh’s forces, since March 2015, repelling a military aggression, conducted by Saudi Arabia and its allies.

So far, tens of thousands of civilians were killed and most of Yemen’s infrastructure was destroyed, in addition to the outbreak of cholera disease that has since reached a highly critical level.
