Statistics are inexorable: Ukrainians are increasingly victims of sexual and labor exploitation.

During the first half of the year, 144 crimes related to human trafficking were registered in Ukraine.

For comparison, for the whole of last year there were 60 cases.

"Most of all, among the victims are women - 119. Also, 37 men and 12 children were targeted," the National Police said.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, 15 women who were victims of violence and deceit returned to the country last year.

As the preconditions for the flourishing of sexual slavery, UN experts refer to the instability of state institutions of power, unemployment and degrading status of women, the weakness of law enforcement and judicial systems, and the lack of coordination in the exchange of information between countries.

"At present, the forms of human trafficking that are not related to sexual exploitation are becoming more widespread. In particular, we are talking about the so-called labor exploitation."

"Victims of this type of crime most often are men of working age or persons with obvious signs of disability, without a permanent residence in the host country and other low-income categories of citizens, " the statement of the National Police said.

At the end of last year, the US Ambassador to Ukraine drew attention to this problem. According to her, 90% (both at home and abroad) of Ukrainians became victims of labor exploitation, at the same time, there are more cases of sexual exploitation, and this situation has become nothing more than a modern kind of slavery in the world.

The Ukraine is also among leading nations for trafficking of human organs (especially from the Donbass.)
