Romania banned a civilian airplane containing 165 passengers, including Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin, from crossing its airspace while the aircraft was traveling to Chisinau, the Moldovan capital where Mr Rogozin was to meet with the President of Moldova.
On Friday, 28 July, the Romanian side banned a civilian airplane from Moscow to Chisinau from the airline S-7 with 165 passengers on board, including 11 children, which also carried the Russian delegation and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin, from entering its airspace.
As the plane did not have enough fuel, the pilots asked Hungary if the aircraft could land at a Budapest airport and then redirect to Chisinau ... which was refused.
Dmitri Rogozin explained that because of the lack of fuel and the large number of women and children on board, the crew decided to head for an emergency aerodrome in Minsk, Belarus.
"The Romanian authorities have endangered the lives of S7 regular flight passengers, including women and children. The fuel was enough to go to Minsk," he wrote on his Twitter account.
In particular, he denounced this initiative of the Romanian authorities for being aimed at Moldovan President Igor Dodon, who had invited Mr. Rogozin and the Russian delegation to Moldova.
"In fact, it is also a move against the Moldovan President," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The visit of the Russian side is canceled and Mr. Rogozin is now traveling to Moscow on a plane flying a regular Minsk - Moscow flight from the airline Aeroflot.
The Romanian authorities in turn explained this refusal by the fact that a "sanctioned person" was on board the aircraft, according to the S7 press service.
