The countermeasures announced by Russia on American sanctions will force the US to reduce the number of their employees by more than 700 people in Russia.

When deciding on measures against the US in Moscow, they proceeded from the premise that "the American side was warned in advance of all the prepared measures, this concerns both the restrictions imposed on real estate and the the number of diplomatic employees."

"Washington knew about this, but preferred to allow the development of events in this scenario, although it could have prevented it," says the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On Friday, July 28, the US Senate approved new sanctions against Russia.

The bill provides, in particular, the imposition of restrictions on various sectors of the Russian economy. In addition, the codification of already existing restrictions is proposed, which will deprive the US administration of the opportunity to independently decide on the fate of sanctions against Russia. Now the bill should be signed by Donald Trump.

From September 1, the number of diplomatic and technical staff working in the US embassy in Moscow, at the consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok, should be reduced to 455 people - only as many Russian diplomats and technical personnel that are working in the United States.

The statement also says that the Russian side has suspended from August 1 the use by the US Embassy of all storage facilities on Dorognaya Street in Moscow and the dacha in Serebryany Bor.
