Prosecutor's Office of Georgia demands extradition of Saakashvili

08/18/2017 12:46

Requests for the extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili have been sent to several countries. The former president is wanted by the Georgian Prosecutor's Office.

In particular, the Georgian prosecutor's office is closely cooperating with their Ukrainian colleagues on this issue: "On the issue of Mikhail Saakashvili, the Prosecutor General's Office is negotiating with the competent authorities of different countries, and all necessary legal procedures are underway," the Georgian department explained.

We recall that in Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili is accused of

  1. squandering state millions for cosmetic procedures, clothing and other personal whims,
  2. brutally dispersing a peaceful protest in 2007,
  3. persecuting the opposition TV company Imedi,
  4. and the beating of MP Valery Gelashvili.

This week, the stateless politician said that he will return to Ukraine before September 10. Previously, he traveled across the US, Poland, Lithuania, and Hungary.
