Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara does not approve of anti-Russian sanctions from the EU and the US, as they also damage the Turkish economy.

"Turkey itself suffered a lot from sanctions in the past, sanctions against our neighbors and partners (Russia) have caused serious damage to our economy, which is why when we hear about sanctions, we do not approve of it." Cavusoglu said in an interview.

"Russia and the US apply sanctions against each other, and the EU is preparing measures against the US, because US sanctions have a negative impact on the EU, and we are trying to resolve all issues through dialogue so as not to drown in these whirlpools," the Turkish minister added.

Earlier, the US introduced new restrictive measures against Russia, which, in particular, concern the construction of export pipelines, including the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. In Brussels, this caused concern, as it affects the economic interests of the EU.

Moscow called the new sanctions "a full-fledged trade war" and introduced in response countermeasures, which, in particular, suggest a reduction in the number of employees in American diplomatic representations in Russia.
