Despite rumors circulating that the three year ISIS-imposed siege on Deir Ezzor has been lifted by the Syrian Army, this remains to be realized as government forces are still approximately 5km from the city.
The rumors spread like wildfire on social media so much so that civilians in the besieged city began celebrating to the news.
Rather the rumors were spread after a Syrian Army unit conducted a scout mission when they were still 11km away from the city and connected with government forces at the 137th base in Deir Ezzor.
The town of al-Shula on the outskirts of Deir Ezzor city also remains under the terrorist groups control.
It is expected that it is only a matter of days at the most before pro-government forces lift the siege on Deir Ezzor and capture the town of al-Shula.
