Anna Kurbatova at work last month in Ukraine |
The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch has criticized the Ukrainian authorities for expelling Russian journalist Anna Kurbatova.
"Ukraine's practice of accusing journalists of an anti-Ukrainian stance, deportation, or prohibition of entry is a serious violation of its international obligations in the field of human rights," said Tanya Cooper, a human rights watchdog on Ukrainian issues.
According to her, these actions from the Ukrainian side are "shortsighted and pathetic" and violate promises regarding democratic reforms and the rule of law.

Fort Russ readers will recall that the SBU kidnapped Kurbatova in Kiev, and turned her over to a Russian checkpoint, with an official document asserting that she "is a threat to the national security of Ukraine and its sovereignty." I.e, she referred to events in Donbass as a civil war instead of "Russian Aggression."
