On Thursday reports emerged that Kurdish and Assyrian forces in the northern Syrian city of Qamishli clashed, resulting in one Assyrian fighter being put in critical condition and one Kurdish officer being killed.

The Kurdish Asayish (Kurdish police force of northern Syria) and the People's Protection Units (YPG), who are backed by the United States, clashed with the Assyrian Sootoro who are loyal to the Syrian government.

It was initially reported that the Sootoro arrested a number of Asayish and YPG personnel, but this was denied by a National Defense Force member in speaking with Leith Fadel, CEO of Al-Masdar News, according to his Twitter.

In recent years, the Asayish have often begun aggression's against the Sootoro or other pro-government militias in an effort to expel them from the predominately Kurdish city that was initially established by survivors of the Assyrian genocide in 1926.
