The US-backed Kurdish-Arab coalition "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) last weekend launched its long-awaited offensive on Deir ez-Zor, aiming for the northern outskirts of this province near the border with Iraq.

The main task is to reach the border town of Abukemal, which has long been one of the main strongholds of ISIS in the province of Deir ez-Zor.

If pro-American factions manage to take it, the SDF will create a problem for the Syrian command, since this city is the most important border crossing leading to the Iraqi province of Al Anbar.

To prevent the new conquest of the US coalition, the Syrian Arab Army accelerated its attack on Deir ez-Zor, having earlier lifted the siege from the military airport, and now quickly switching its attention to the occupied areas in the provincial capital.

The SAA is currently planning to cross the Euphrates River at the northern edge of the provincial capital to prevent the advancement of the SDF.

The Russian Federation air forces is
covering the pontoon and bridge units of the SAA, who are preparing for the crossing.

The government troops have enough means to accomplish the operation, besides, the SAA has much more power than the SDS, which increases the chances of the army to take control of the ISIS border stronghold.
