The Kurdish police, known as the Asayish, operating in Syria's northeast Hasakah province have taken over a school in Qamishli.
The invasion of the school was triggered by staff and teachers refusing to implement a new Kurdish curriculum that forces all students, including Arabs, Assyrians and ethnic groups, to learn the Kurdish language.
During the police invasion of the school, staff and teachers were expelled and/or arrested.
In response to the unnecessary aggression, students made it known that they reject the new curriculum and do not want to learn Kurdish in the ethnically diverse province that is mostly Arab.
