Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has received a Russian delegation led by Vladimir Putin's special envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, on Thursday.
“The Syrian government is open to any political initiative that would stop shedding the blood of the Syrian people, as well as restore security and stability”, Assad said.
He also stressed that the Syrian state is determined to continue the war on terror as this is what will eventually make space for settlements and reconciliations, while at the same time, being ready to support any political solution that would increase the pace of national reconciliation and dialogue, namely by holding a national dialogue conference in Syria where amending the constitution and holding new parliamentary elections would also be discussed.
The Russian side expressed its support for Syria in the wake of the war on terror, as well as for any political solution, aimed at restoring security and stability to Syria, provided it respects Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
According to the official website of the Syrian Presidency, the meeting was attended by Major General Ali Mamlouk, head of the National Security Bureau, and Dr. Ayman Sousan, assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
