The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has reportedly been targeted by Syrian air defense system after making an illegal incursion into the Lebanese airspace.
On Monday, IAF destroyed a Syrian SA-5 anti-aircraft battery, located east of Damascus, after its jets were targeted by a SA-5 surface-to-air missile while hovering above Lebanon.
“The SA-5 missile battery, which was stationed some 50 kilometers east of the Syrian capital, fired at Israeli jets that were on a routine aerial reconnaissance flight in Lebanese airspace”, IDF Spokesman Brig.Gen. Ronen Manelis said in a statement.
In the past, Israel has made multiple incursions into Syrian and Lebanese airspace, usually in time when the Syrian Forces and their allies of Hezbollah were on a winning streak against ISIS terrorists.
