Pyongyang was ready to launch a nuclear strike against the US, as stated in an official letter from the DPRK to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin - a source familiar with the situation has revealed to RIA News.
"This letter was brought to the attention of the American side, after which Washington's position on the DPRK changed," the source said.
The letter was handed over by the North Korean delegation to Putin through the Federation Council speaker, Valentina Matvienko. during a meeting of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in October. According to Matvienko herself, Pyongyang's representatives presented her with "the original reaction of DPRK's supreme leader Kim Jong-un to the speech of US President Donald Trump at the UN."
The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that he did not know anything about this letter.
Speaking at the UN in September, Trump attacked the DPRK with accusations that it threatens the entire world with "the death of an unimaginable number of people" because of the "careless development of missile and nuclear programs,", threatening to completely destroy it. "The rocket-man is on a suicide missin for himself and his regime," the US president said at the time.
Later, however, he somewhat softened the rhetoric and in recent speeches he stated that the US is ready to offer Pyongyang the "way to a better future," raising the topic of the talks, and also called on Russia to help resolve the crisis.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the results of the APEC summit, said that Russia and China had proposed a plan that sets out the steps to resolve the North Korean problem. The positions of Moscow and Beijing on this issue completely coincide, and recently there have been encouraging signals from Washington, Seoul and Tokyo, about the absence of alternative solutions to the problem through negotiations, he said.
