The shift in the geopolitical situation in the world following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections could seriously impact the further development of the military and political situation in Donbass. This was stated by the leader of the Patriotic Forces of Donbass organization, the founder of the Vostok brigade, and former DPR security minister, Aleksandr Khodakovsky.

In Khodakovsky’s opinion, by losing unconditional support from the West, Kiev could start to realize the Minsk Agreements. Despite the fact that Minsk is one of the possible solutions, Donbass patriots hope that it will not be realized, since the reintegration of the DPR and LPR into Ukraine would de facto mean that all the victims have been in vain and that Donbass would, as a result of coming back under Kiev’s control, be distanced from Russia.

The most favorable situation for Donbass, in Khodakovsky’s opinion, would be the final collapse of the Ukrainian political system and the further degradation of the former Ukraine.

“For half a dozen years, there have already been three change sin the political elite, a third reformatting in the interests of the West. Ukraine could collapse, not only politically, but ethnically. As long as people speak Russian, they remain dormant Russians. When the situation arises where the question ‘who are we with’ is posed, the majority of them will choose Russia. If any political changes grip Ukraine, then the arrival of even more radical forces, which are mobilized and ready for action, is forecasted. This would provoke the further division of Ukraine. For us, this is the most favorable scenario because only the collapse of Ukraine will allow us to achieve a sustainable, favorable world based on common sense,” Khodakovsky emphasized in an interview on November 15th, 2016 during a weekly Moscow-Donbass Skype conference with Center for Geopolitical Expertise expert Nataliya Makeeva and prize-winning Russian artist Aleksey Belyaev-Guintovt.
