The European Union has extended sanctions against Crimea for another year. This was stated by the EU Council.
Foreign ministers of the EU have, without discussion, extended the Crimean sanctions. Validity of the restrictive measures were to expire on June 23, 2017, but have now been extended until June 23, 2018.
The EU "continues to condemn the illegal annexation by the Russian Federation of Crimea and Sevastopol," and does not recognize the annexation of the two regions to Russia.
EU bans the import of Crimean products to the EU, any investments in the Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as the export of goods and technology to the region that could be used by local companies. Tourist ships are prohibited from entering Crimean ports, except for emergencies.
Earlier in March, the European Union extended sanctions against 150 Russian citizens and 37 companies, which in the EU are considered responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The sanctions have been extended for six months - until September 2017.
