Fierce clashes have reportedly broken out between the Syrian Army and  the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the western countryside of Raqqa province.

The clashes broke out on Sunday night, following the shootdown of a Syrian military jet that was conducting raids on ISIS positions near the key strategic town of Resafah, located in the western countryside of Raqqah province.

The Syrian Army's Central Command later issued a statement, saying one of its jets has been shot down by the US Air Force and that the incident also resulted in the loss of a pilot (who has since been identified as Ali Fahd), while also accusing the US of now openly supporting ISIS. The pilot's exact fate remains unknown for the time being.

The US confirmed its actions.

The outcome of the Syrian Army-SDF clashes is not yet known and according to the sources, close to the ground, the clashes are still going on, with no particular information on the casualties given for the time being.

The so-called “Syrian Democratic Forces” are backed by US and led by YPG, a Kurdish separatist militia, notorious for its attempts of ethnic cleansing of Assyrian and Arab populations in the northern regions of Syria.
