A spokesman for the American Nuclear Energy Institute assured on Saturday that no US nuclear power plant was compromised in the recent waves of cyber attacks.

The statement comes in response to the questions, related to the warnings, issued by the US administrations last week, that hackers could have targeted the American nuclear power plants.

According to a report of the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) which was published on Wednesday, the nuclear sector was allegedly targeted by a mass hacking campaign, dating back to May.

According to the report, hackers used phishing emails to obtain credentials in order to gain access to networks of their targets.

John Keeley, a senior manager and a spokesman for the Nuclear Energy Institute, affirmed that no US nuclear plant was penetrated in any of these attacks, adding that if there was any breach of operations of the nuclear power plants, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would be immediately notified.
