Russian arms supplies to Serbia are needed to drastically increase national defense, President Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"We expect a visit from Minister Shoigu, as well as the arrival of tanks and reconnaissance vehicles. It is important to us ... because we need it", said Vucic.
The Serbian president claims that armaments serve Belgrade in protecting the nation and preventing a repeat of a scenario like that of 1999 when NATO bombed Serbia. "Our defense can grow exponentially in just one day”, he stressed.
"Today we have three or four MiG-29s ... Once we equip the Army with radar and air defense, citizens will feel secure. As far as the defense industry is concerned, unfortunately, wars are everywhere, and within the next 20 years we will be able to sell everything we produce”, added Vucic.
In 2017 Russia will provide Serbia with six MiG-29 hunters, and a batch of heavy armored vehicles, including tanks. The exact timing of deliveries has not been announced.
