Ukrainian nationalists have harassed pilot Olexandr Akopov, who saved more than 120 passengers, in an emergency landing of a Turkish passenger airliner last week.

President Poroshenko awarded the hero for his courage while the radicals demanded to take away the award from the Donetsk national.

Attitude to the pilot changed dramatically when it became clear that Olexandr Akopov was born in Donetsk and he has many friends in the territory of the self-proclaimed DPR. In addition, on his social networks he has a photo of Sergei Lavrov, whom the pilot physically resembles.

Akopov blindly landed the aircraft in Istanbul when the aircraft nose and the cockpit window were battered by hail.

The pilot, who was criticized at home, has heard messages of support from the Russian Foreign Ministry. On their facebook page, they said that the pilot's feat and professionalism should be outside of politics. And if the attacks continue, Akopov was offered to come to Russia, "where he is always welcome."
