A resistance to the latest EU demands on migrant quotas to Hungary and Poland, is growing.

The Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs has recently taken a stand and said Budapest will veto any EU action against Warsaw in the legal dispute between the EU and Poland.

Kovacs openly declared that Hungary would never allow Poland to be sanctioned or put under pressure, as long as there are double standards being witnessed.

When asked about the consequences of the recent ECJ ruling on refugee/migrant quotas, Kovacs replied evasively.

The debate on the question whether Hungary is taking in refugees/migrants as part of the current EU redistribution programs, is still ongoing.

Hungary has not yet received any refugees/migrants, though according to the relevant EU decision of 2015, it would have to accept at least 1,294 “vulnerable” people from Italy and Greece.

Back in June, the European Commission launched infringement procedures against Hungary for non-compliance with its obligations under the 2015 Council Decisions on relocation of refugees/migrants.

Kovacs also took a position on the latest Juncker report on the “situation in the Union”, presented during the latest plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

“Most of the problems that Juncker raised in his speech were caused by the EU Commission itself”, the Budapest government spokesman said. “The future of the EU will be decided not by the EU Commission, but by the European leaders”, he added.
