Iran has unveiled its new ballistic missile during one of the military parades held across the nation to mark the first day of the annual Sacred Defense Week, the commemoration of the 1980-1988 war between Iraq and Iran.
The military parade in Tehran was attended by the Iranian President Hassan Rowhani and senior commanders of the Army and the Revolutionary Guards.
During the ceremony, Tehran unveiled the Khorramshahr, its latest 2,000-km ballistic missile.
The commander of the Iranian Air Force, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said the development of the missile is a new achievement for Iran and was produced through a joint cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
He explained that the Khorramshahr missile has a range of 2000 km, and can carry multiple warheads instead of just one one.
Brigadier General Hajizadeh also said that so far several successful test with the ballistic missile were conducted and that pretty soon the missile will be ready for its regular use.
For his part, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the global colonialist forces who support the crimes of Israel and its occupational policies, also created, trained and funded the terrorist groups that are now operating in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, with the purpose of targeting their people and destroying the infrastructure.
Rouhani renewed his country's support for Syria and Iraq in their struggle against terrorism, saying that the wars in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Palestine are created against the people to prevent them from achieving their prosperity and progress.
The Iranian president noted his country will continue to develop its missile capabilities and defense programs in all the relevant fields, and will not seek permission from anyone.
Before finishing his speech, Rouhani renewed his country's commitment to the nuclear deal, saying the whole world, except Israel and the US, expressed its support for the deal which was achieved through dialogue.
