The Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Kremlin agrees with the Russian Defense Ministry that the US masterminded an Al-Qaeda led attack to distract Syrian and Russian progress against ISIS in Deir Ezzor.
"This [assessment of events by the Kremlin] cannot differ from what was stated by the Defense Ministry. That’s why all what was said does not need any more comments," Peskov said.
TASS explained that on Wednesday, the chief of the main operations department of Russia’s General Staff, Sergey Rudskoy, said gunmen of Al-Qaeda aligned Jabhat al-Nusra launched a large-scale offensive against Syrian troops in the Idlib de-escalation zone on Tuesday in an offensive that was initiated by American intelligence services to stop a successful advance of government troops east of Deir Ezzor against ISIS.
The attack was repelled.
