Iran has vowed a “fierce response”, should the United States classify its Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
“Iran's response to the possibility that the United States would consider the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization would be very severe, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi said.
He expressed his hope that the United States would not continue its strategic mistakes and would stop escalating the things further, warning that should the United States indeed do this, Iran's response would be very severe, noting that the United States would certainly bear its consequences.
Regarding the recent Turkish military operation in the Syrian province of Idleb and the position of Iran to the matter, Qasimi explained that this was on the agenda of the meetings in Astana where the particular issue was discussed by experts, hoping that a final result will be reached at the next meeting.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry noted that as regards Syria, the necessary talks and coordination are going on well.
Regarding the news in some of the western media outlets that the North Korea's nuclear program is linked to Iran, Qasimi considered that this came in the context of the mass Iranophobia in the western media, stressing that such statements are absolutely baseless.
Ali Akbar Velayati, the international affairs adviser to the Iranian supreme leader has also responded to the latest US provocations, saying that the IRGC is vital for security and stability of the region, adding that without the intervention of IRGC the governments of Damascus and Baghdad would likely fall into the hands of Washington's agents by now.
