Lebanese religious leader Patriarch Beshara Al Rai has visited Saudi Arabia in a landmark move to see the outgoing Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri who is still staying in the country.
The two discussed Hariri’s resignation which many around the world have analysed as a forced move by Saudi Arabia in order to put pressure on Lebanon and its pro-Syrian/Hezbollah president.
Hariri announced his resignation on November 4th while on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia. He said he was stepping down due to being worried about the growing influence of Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon and the region, as well as possible attempts on his life.
On Sunday November 12th, Hariri gave his first interview following “resignation”, during which he appeared to be a bit anxious.
