The Office of the Syrian tourism has released this video to invite you to discover Maaloula The Christian city in Syria where they still speak Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ!
The city of Maaloula fell to the Islamist al-Nosra front September 2013. The jihadists have commited a "real archaeological massacre," plundering all the churches including the monastery church, one of the oldest Christian buildings in the world, dating from the early fourth century, and have destroyed exceptional icons.
The jihadists also destroyed the great statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city, and in April 14, 2014 the city of Maaloula was released from the jihadist influence by the Syrian army and it's President Bashar al-Assad who funds the new statue of the Virgin, which will then be put by Syrian army helicopter.
