The official representative of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, has responded to US Vice President Joe Biden’s advising Petro Poroshenko to implement reforms faster, or else the EU will waive sanctions against Russia.
Zakharova wrote on Facebook: “Translated, it sounds like this: ‘Ukrainian brothers! You need to keep your trousers pulled up! Forget about the point, don’t think about the consequences. Your goal is extending the anti-Russian sanctions. Repeat this three times a day and the happiness of our children will be a comfort for your children.”
Joseph Biden stated that Kiev needs to more actively carry out economic and political reforms and warned that several EU countries are ready to lift the sanctions against Russia.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Petro Poroshenko advised the UN Security Council to abolish the veto and criticized the organization for failing to ensure peace in Syria and Donbass. He remarked that the veto rights of the US, Russia, UK, China, and France have led to “inaction” on the part of the Security council. He asserted that blocking decisions contributes to the persistence of “mass atrocities.”
Poroshenko also remarked that the Security Council’s inaction on Crimea turned the peninsula into a Russian military outpost. He called on the UN to more actively participate in resolving the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and once again accused the Kremlin of aggression.
