Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that Western sanctions cannot provoke the international isolation of Russia. The Russian leader stated this during the Russia Calling investment forum.

During his speech, Putin acknowledged that Western sanctions do hurt the Russian and global economy, but will not succeed in fully isolating Russia from the international community.

“They don’t have enough engine life and gas to drive around our borders. How can you isolate such a country as Russia?”, Putin ironically responded.

Putin stressed that the economic restrictions imposed for political reasons are harming all countries.

On October 12th, the Swiss foreign minister, Margot Wallstrom, stated that the EU should impose a new package of sanctions on Moscow over “Russia’s actions in Syria.”
