Britain will extend the program of exercises of Ukrainian army training for another year because of threats that may come from neighboring Russia, said the British Ministry of Defence.
"As Ukraine continues to deal with assertive and provocative Russia, (Minister of Defense - approx.) Sir Michael Fallon confirmed that UK personnel will remain in the country until the beginning of 2018, continuing the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine", he said in a statement
The exercise program includes training on the detection of mines and other explosive devices, to provide logistics and operational planning. It is expected that the training will involve more than five thousand members of the Ukrainian military, which is one thousand more than it was initially planned by March 2017.
"The extension of the exercise program for the armed forces of Ukraine means that we support Ukraine, and remain committed to its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in the face of Russian military expansion. (This program) Will provide an opportunity to thousands of Ukrainian soldiers go through a training course of the best armed forces in the world ", Fallon said.
Britain began the Ukrainian military training program in 2015.
