The Kremlin considers the American Fox News journalist Bill O’Reilly’s slander of Russian President Vladimir Putin unacceptable and expects an apology, says Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
While interviewing US President Donald Trump, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly asked about Trump’s respect for the leader of Russia. O’Reilly reminded Trump of the accusations which the West has leveled against Moscow and called President Putin a “killer.” In response, Trump said “Do you think our country is so innocent?”, emphasizing that it would be better for the United States to get along with Russia than not.
Peskov told journalists: “We believe such words by a Fox News correspondent to be unacceptable and offensive. And, honestly speaking, of course, we expect to receive an apology to the president from such an esteemed broadcaster.”
Putin’s press secretary did not comment on Trump’s response in the Fox News interview. “As for the statements of the US President, in this case I would leave them without comment," he said.
