EU leaders decided to remove references to "Russian intervention and campaigns of misinformation" in the Balkans from the draft document of the summit. The anniversary of the EU summit will be held March 25 in Rome. It is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome (1957), which laid the foundations of the European Union. According to some media, the meeting will consider the fate of Europe in view of the upcoming exit of the UK from the EU.
Recently, the topic of information warfare with the Russian media has become quite commonly heard in European countries. In November, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on combating the Russian mass media, in which the main threats were named as Sputnik Agency, the RT channel, the foundation "Russian World", subordinated to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Federal Agency "Rossotrudnichestvo". A number of provisions of this document were on the border with being, in effectl, a proposal to introduce de facto censorship.
The President of Russia, commenting on the adoption of the resolution, congratulated journalists from RT and Sputnik with productive work. According to him, this document indicates the obvious degradation of democracy in Western society. However, Putin added he expects the triumph of common sense, and hoped that restrictions for Russian mass media will not come to fruition.
